 |
|
To start off with I am impressed with what has been done with FFd20 3.5, I honestly don't think I could do better myself. When I found this game, I was searching for something different for our group to play as D&D and d20 Modern have gotten a little old hat for the time being. I saw the pdf for the game and fell in love. As it stands I am DMing and we have 5 players. I am allowing all that is in the FFd20 and the Core 3.5 books with some exceptions on a case by case basis. Our party is made up from a;
High Elf Overdrive Knight (a fan made version of the Keyblade Wielders from Kingdom Hearts, modified with the Red Mage's spellcasting caped at 5th level, and 2 limit breaks chosen from the Fighter {sword}, Knight {shield}, or Red Mage {staff})
Krynn Minotaur Beastmaster (background is that he is an outcast orphan raised apart from his kind as he is a runt)
Mithra White Mage
Human Fighter
Grey Elf Black Mage
don't quite know the whole story for the campaign but it will definitely involve four elemental crystals..... |

I am also implementing a fair amount of variant rules from unearthed arcana; Armor as DR, Class Defense (although I'll go with your version, 1/2 class level), Weapon Group Feats (this reminds me so much of who weapons are handled in FF games that have job systems), Flaws (for extra feats).
Probably the biggest change to the game IMO is how I handle skills, a character picks a number of skills equal to the amount of skill points she would normally get and these have ranks equal to her class level +3 (these I call Trained skills), the rest of her class skills get ranks equal to 1/2 her class level rounded down (these are still called Class skills and the rest are Untrained skills). If a character multiclasses them she marks her class skill according to her new class and pick her new trained skills, newly picked trained skills gain a rank every level and class skills every 2 levels. |

Going with Viladin's plan for class defense bonus (1/2 level, round down), add BAB to damage rolls so ATK, DEF, and DAM all proceed as the levels go up.
Debating have spellcasters add their key ability modifier for spellcasting to their spell damage rolls.
Stated up using our house rules; Goblin, Wolf, Black Widow, Skeleton, and a custom Crazy Horse. |
